BRT ITERA was built to modernize campus transit operations at Institut Teknologi Sumatera. The system provides real-time bus telemetry, driver assignment tracking, passenger transaction settlement, and an executive administration dashboard.
Problem Solved
Replaced manual paper-based passenger logs and delayed route tracking with an automated real-time dispatch and NFC card payment reconciliation system.

BNI TapCash NFC Payment Integration
Sinkronisasi Transaksi Non-Tunai
Mengintegrasikan transaksi tap kartu elektronik penumpang dengan sistem akuntansi kampus secara aman dan terverifikasi.
- Protokol deduplikasi transaksi idempoten untuk mencegah double-charge saat sinyal tidak stabil.
- Verifikasi cryptographic signature pada setiap payload transaksi pembayaran.

Engineered lightweight, low-latency REST endpoints to handle concurrent GPS telemetry pings and TapCash transaction payloads from mobile readers across multiple transit loops.
- Optimized request validation pipelines to prevent socket exhaustion during peak arrivals.
- Implemented JWT authentication with role-scoped tokens for vehicle hardware vs administrative users.
- Configured connection pooling to maintain high throughput under bursty network connections.
Database Design & Ledger Integrity
Designed a normalized PostgreSQL schema ensuring strict financial transaction integrity, idempotent payment deduplication, and historical route telemetry indexing.
- Enforced composite indexes on timestamped fleet coordinates for rapid spatio-temporal queries.
- Utilized database transactions with row-level locks to prevent double-charging TapCash balances.
- Partitioned audit tables to maintain high query velocity as transaction volume expanded.
Deployment & Operations
Deployed the system on a Linux VPS infrastructure using Docker containerization, Nginx as a reverse proxy with SSL termination, and PM2 process management.
- Configured Nginx rate limiting and keep-alive optimization for IoT card-reader endpoints.
- Orchestrated continuous background sync tasks via PM2 to ensure resilient auto-restarts upon hardware drops.
- Set up automated log rotation and health checks to maintain 99.2% production availability.
